Alison McLeod – Director (McLeod Hart Law Ltd)

I was in a senior legal role with a large organisation. I came to see Phil when the relationship between myself and my employer became complex as a consequence of different expectations of what the role entailed. I instructed Phil to accompany me to a meeting to explore the possibility of resolving the conflict.

I instructed Phil at very short notice. Phil made himself available, identified the issues quickly and gave me advice that was direct and constructive. This immediately put me at ease and made me feel that I was in very safe hands.

Phil took the time to explain the process to me and to answer all of my questions in simple and direct language which was so important given how stressed I was having never been in this kind of situation before. Phil’s approach at the meeting was calm, professional and courteous.

Throughout the meeting Phil advocated strongly for me whilst never allowing the situation to become combative or personal. Phil proposed and secured agreement to a constructive solution at the meeting.

After a few days of reflection I decided to resign. Phil negotiated a settlement the following day, secured the agreement in writing the day after, following which the agreement was endorsed by a MBIE mediator the day after that. The entire process from the day I instructed Phil to final resolution took one week.

Phil’s legal advice and support was non-judgmental; Phil was patient and calm which was important during those times that I got the wobbles and wasn’t sure about what to do. Because of Phil’s approach I was able to make a fully informed decision about my future based on legal advice that was straightforward and easy to understand.

The situation for me at the time that I first instructed Phil felt completely overwhelming and unresolvable. Instead the matter was completely resolved within one week. Phil is an effective, confident, professional lawyer and I cannot recommend Phil highly enough.
