"Thank you so much for all your help. You made a difficult and potentially unpleasant process easy, quick and painless. I was impressed by your intuitive understanding of the issues and professional way in which you handled the process
I am extremely pleased with the outcome and have a sense of peace that I have not felt for some months. I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone that is looking for an excellent employment lawyer."

“I was in a senior role in an international finance company. I made a terrible error of judgment that resulted in a police investigation and serious criminal charges arising. I resigned immediately.
I instructed Phil to work on both the criminal and employment law aspects of my case.
Phil ultimately negotiated a settlement of the case against me that was before the Employment Relations Authority.
Phil also negotiated with the Police at length and had the charge reduced, and ultimately he secured a discharge without conviction and permanent name suppression, (which provided me and my family an opportunity to rebuild our lives).
My situation took about 14 months from start to conclusion. Phil supported us the whole way. We developed a great working relationship and Phil was always available to talk and meet – we even met on weekends. Phil, who has a thorough understanding of the law but as importantly how the “system” works day to day, mapped out a strategy for a very complex situation, executed it, and got an amazing result. He was efficient with his time and work in order to keep costs under control as much as possible. Even the sentencing judge said he was impressed with and persuaded by Phil’s arguments.
Phil achieved the impossible and I have no hesitation in recommending Phil to anybody in serious trouble who needs a committed lawyer who will focus on their case with compassion and interest.”

“It’s great to meet a lawyer that while very professional also has a heart and compassion for people going through very stressful situations.
After meeting with Phil the stress seemed to instantly melt away. He talked me through the options and helped me make reach a decision regarding my future. I really felt he backed me the whole way.
Phil did everything he said he would and kept in touch with me the whole time as the situation with my former employer developed.
I would certainly not hesitate to contact Phil if I ever needed a lawyer again and would certainly recommend him to family and friends without hesitation.”

“We recently worked with Phil after my husband, a senior executive in a major IT firm, was suddenly sidelined by the company. We had never been in this position before and were quite overcome with the enormity of what happened and the way it was done. We were also overwhelmed with Phil’s support, knowledge and professionalism in what was a very difficult few weeks. We both believe that Phil tuned in, both professionally and personally. He understood it all and actually ‘felt’ all our emotions and it was a huge solace to have him ‘in our corner’.
The settlement Phil obtained for us enabled my husband to walk away with his head held high.
We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending Phil to others”.
In early December 2012 I was made redundant from my employer of 25 years. It was totally out of the blue. I’m a solo mum with an 11 year old child and a large mortgage. I was at breakdown point. The company offered me a redundancy payment, but I wasn’t too sure if this amount really represented 25 years of service to the company.
I had agreed to have a meeting with the finance director, and to be totally honest I was going in to agree with their offer. A friend of mine who was helping me through this tough time told me not to do anything till I had seen Phil Mitchell, a lawyer she had dealt with in an employment dispute months earlier.
I was in such a state that part of me just wanted it over and done with, but at my friend’s insistence I rang and made an appointment that day to see Phil. Well, from that moment on everything changed. I arrived at Phil’s office a complete wreck; he handed me a box of tissues and I slowly told him my story while holding back tears. My first impression was his compassion - he gave me time to compose myself and offered a bit of emotional counseling and positive reinforcement.
Phil advised me I was entitled to a better redundancy package. He rang the company, rescheduled the meeting and told my employer that I was in no emotional state to return till the meeting in two days time. Those days gave me time to sit in the sunshine and gain some strength and composure.
We arrived at the company and sat with the finance director and an HR woman they had flown from in from Auckland. Phil spoke calmly and right from the start and set the meeting in motion - it was an quite empowering moment for me. Phil discussed with the company in a very professional manner the errors made in their process which opened the door to negotiations. At the end of the meeting they had agreed to a package that doubled the amount first offered to me.
Phil picked me up from rock bottom and now I have time to spend with my daughter and be financially sound until the right position becomes available for me. Phil was my hero!
"I recently required the services of an Employment Lawyer due to an unforeseen redundancy. After doing some research I decided to use Phil Mitchell. During the process I found Phil to be professional, easy to deal with and he kept me informed throughout the process. He offered sound advice and achieved the desired outcome promptly and without hassle. In the event I know anyone requiring employment law advice I would happily recommend Phil's services."
“I was in a senior management role at a large Maori charitable trust when we had to deal with a major restructure and a personal grievance brought by one of the managers whose position was dis-established. Phil worked tirelessly in dealing with a very difficult situation. Phil would be my first recommendation to anyone looking for an effective and hard-working employment lawyer.”

“Through Phil acting for me I felt I regained my self-respect; it was more important than the money. Because I’ve elected to stay working for my employer they have to respect me going forward. I just wanted to be treated fairly. Phil had the skill and expertise that I didn’t have; he was very frank and honest about the expected outcome. I was very happy with the service I received. I actually felt like an individual with Phil – he took the stress away.”

"I recently contacted Phil Mitchell to discuss a confusing employment situation on recommendation from a friend. Within half an hour, we had agreed on a course of action and I knew exactly where I stood legally. Phil recommended that I didn't take legal action in my particular case (which speaks volumes for him as a lawyer) but it was an excellent outcome for me, as I knew all the pros and cons. I would recommend Phil again and wish I had seen him sooner.”
